I got my PhD in virology at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm 1987 and did my post doc with Harry Greenberg at Stanford University. I am currently Professor at Linköping University and Karolinska Institutet. My research focus on pathophysiological mechanisms of rotavirus and norovirus infections and on human genetic factors associated with gastrointestinal and zoonotic viral diseases. I have been secretary of the Swedish Medical Research Council advisory group for stomach and gastrointestinal diseases. 1993-1996 and Chair 1996-2004. Chair of the inflammatory and infectious network for gastrointestinal infections in Sweden 2005-2007. On the organizing committee for a large number of international meetings on norovirus and rotavirus. Advisory board member of the European Society of Virology. 2010-. Chair for the review committee of infections and inflammations at the Swedish Medical Research Council 2013. Chair for the review committee of infections and inflammations at Karolinska Instituted and Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm. 2013-2017. I was founder of the European Rotavirus Biology meetings (ERBM), and during the years reviewer for the Finnish research council, Welcome trust, Cambridge University and editor for Scientific report.
