Dr. Huppertz graduated from Wuerzburg medical school and in 1979 received the degree “Dr.med” by work on the polypeptide composition of mumps virus in 1979. After working as a medical doctor in Africa for several years, he was trained in paediatrics at Wuerzburg university hospital and certified in 1988 where he worked as consulting staff since and vice chairman of paediatrics (since 1996). His research interests include paediatric infectious diseases including vaccination, paediatric rheumatic diseases and paediatric drugs. He is head of paediatrics and 1999 affiliated with the University of Goettingen, Germany) and coordinator of several multicenter-studies in paediatric rheumatology and infectious diseases. He has contributed to 150 peer-reviewed publications. He is president of the North German Society of Paediatrics and a member of several committees at the German Society/Academy of paediatrics as well as editor, associate editor, member of editorial boards and referee for several journals in paediatrics, drugs in children, infectious and rheumatic diseases.
